July
What a hectic month! Despite a couple of minor hitches, the new site launched (as you can see!) at the start of July. It was an exciting time and I still can’t thank people enough for all their support. I was so touched by all the good luck messages - and I even received cards, balloons, champagne ( a little tipsy fairy with a wonky tiara, here!) and had a gorgeous cake made for me, with my Blue Moon painting on it! I almost didn’t want to cut into it but cake never lasts long in our house!! I also really appreciate those who promoted me non-stop and put links on their MySpace / Facebook and websites - not to mention those who signed my guestbook. Thank you! Prints are selling already, and it’s been good to see which are the most popular.....it’s not the ones I thought it would be, so it’s been interesting!
I’m very proud to have just signed a contract with Artistic Minds Inc. too! This company produce licensed packages of art for sale, for use as graphics, avatars, tubes, web sets and layouts etc ( the kind of glittery images you find on MySpace and such like). This hopefully stops people using artists’ work on the internet without their permission and not crediting them for the work. I am also signed up to take part in interviews and fan chats, so that should be fun!
I’m busy just now, developing a new section to the Faery Art page, so that all my Pin-up style little ladies can go in there! I really love doing these pictures; I’m a big fan of Burlesque - especially Immodesty Blaize ( love her name!), along with 1950’s Marilyn style icons, so these are fun to do. Check out the first few in my latest set - The Sizzle Sisters!

I also really want to give a plug to my lovely friends over at FAE Forum too.....its a really good place to be a part of, and everyone is so supportive of each other. If you’re an emerging artist / creative person, then I recommend you join - there’s a wealth of advice and information on there.and you’ll meet some nice people!
I’m receiving good feedback from my Gothic style faeries and have been asked to do more like this. I’ve also had a few requests to do male faeries / angels......hmmmm, can’t think why!!! I do think I deserve a good life model to work from, for these however - ha ha!!! I think I could pay a fair rate for David Tennant or John Barrowman ! ; )
June
We’ve just created a Facebook page especially for SilverWingsArt, which Im happy with and its a nice way to keep in touch with people too. I’ve been toying with the idea of opening an online Zazzle store for a while now, and yesterday I did it. The company is based in the USA and it’s a great way of having your art on different types of merchandise such as Tshirts, badges, mousemats etc. I was really pleased that at the end of yesterday, I was featured in the Best Product Awards for the ‘Once in a Blue Moon’ image! Hurray! I’ve also just finished a new painting - Pentacle Moon, and it was from an idea I had a long time ago. It took ages and I suspect it will be long time before I paint lace again - it drove me mad!!

Another two weeks to go until the launch date of the new look Silver Wings Art website! We are of course, planning a launch party, to celebrate this ( well- it would be remiss not to, wouldn’t it?!) Really couldn’t have done this without the help of my husband ( who works wonders with graphics and banners - not to mention being very tolerant!), and my dear friends - both in person and online. Thank you !
As for anything else...well, I’ve been even more busy lately with painting and meetings with suppliers etc. I’ve been so grateful to my friends lately, for providing a much needed giggle or two, as well as encouragement when Ive felt stressed out !! Just read a wonderful book too, by Joanne Harris called ‘ Lollipop Shoes’ which was a magical sequel to ‘Chocolat’ - lots of lessons to be learnt in there too, about people not being quite what they seem. It gave me a good idea for a new picture ( as well as compelling me to seek out the perfect killer pair of red shiny shoes!)!

I have been rushed off my little glittery feet over the past few weeks! I’ve just finished a new painting ‘Ivy’ which is available to buy as an open edition print.

There’s SO much I want to do! I have lots of ideas for new pictures... I feel a surge of gothic coming on! Something has also been compelling me to paint an angel lately, which is currently in sketching stage. We’ve been working hard on the web site to overhaul the whole look and content. I never appreciated how much work went into this- we just take it for granted when we click away on the internet! I’ve learnt so much from my trusty web advisor ( thank you Fabulous One!). We’ve got lots of things in the pipeline and new licensing deals featuring my art, so watch this space! We really want to make this web site a fun place to be, besides a portal for purchasing my artwork. So keep checking back for competitions, e-cards, and fun photographs! We may even be including a forum in the months to come, for you to chatter about all things magical! ( Hint: close friends had better start running now, as your services may be employed as Admin and Moderator recruits!!)
Aside from the rushing, I’ve been loving the new Doctor Who series...I’m a huge fan of David Tennant as everyone knows! I’ve been planning for ages to draw/paint all the Doctors, just for fun ( and because I’m a sci-fi geek!) I love painting fairies, but sometimes I feel like creating pictures for me - the time is never there somehow! I also really want to do Superhero pictures - something which I became inspired by, from artist Julie Bell; her work in oil paints really is amazing. I’m going to start with either the Silver Surfer or Abe Sapien from Hellboy; mainly because I met Doug Jones recently, who plays both characters. After a lovely chat with him, he encouraged me to follow my dreams- he is truly a very talented and warm person.
April
Hello! I am very excited to announce my new contract with The Fairy Society, to license my artwork on their craft products! My art will appear on their scrapbooking papers, transfers and quilting blocks.
I’m really busy creating new art just now, as well as doing major web site changes and planning new projects. .I must be careful not to overdo the painting.... a little advice to artists out there - I have damaged discs in my neck and back ( I’m not a sympathy seeker, honestly!) which apparently has been caused by bad posture whilst drawing for long periods of time. This has resulted in the nerves in my hands and arms being trapped and causes agony and numbness in my fingers. I know other artist friends who are suffering the same thing - so it’s been good to support each other and give advice. The advice I’ve been given, is to raise your drawing board as much as possible - preferably at an angle and really be conscious of your posture. Try to take regular breaks every 30 minutes or so too ( something which I’m bad at!) and keep exercising!. ( Oh and spending long sessions on my Nintendo DS really never helped either!!!). I am determined not to have surgery for this and just following this advice and not lifting anything heavy, has really helped me. Hope it does the same for you, if you’re a fellow sufferer!
